Windy Season!! Don't be Fooled!!

Wow the weather is great, Spring season is here, the sun is shining and it's HOT out there in the middle of October/November..Don't Be Fooled!!! Even though the weather is nice and seems like the "spring season"is here. It isn't so, we are actually in the Fall Season and you have to make sure to protect yourself from the wind and cold from entering your body.
This is the time that people get "sick" with flu, allergies, colds, cough, and sinus congestion..

In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is believed that an external invasion of wind, cold, heat , summer-heat, dryness and dampness can lead to a "common cold" or flu like symptoms. Wind is a pathogenic factor that invades your body, it arises quickly, changes rapidly, and  which combines with cold or heat thereby attacking you with a "cold".

Take Preventative measures and precautions!!

  • Make sure your neck is covered (wear a scarf) when walking outside to prevent from wind entering your body and attacking you with a cold
  • Don't sleep next to an open window
  • Make sure the fan is not blowing directly on your face and/or neck
  • Resist from driving with the windows down with that "cool breeze" in your hair/face
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine offer an effective way of treating the "common cold" and "flu" with symptoms such as, cough, fever, chills, headache, body aches, runny/stuffy nose, sinus inflammation and sore throat.

If you feel like your "getting sick" or "coming down with a cold", you should seek treatment immediately  with the appropriate herbs and acupuncture.

Breathe for Peace

It is very important to be very mindful of our breathing. Often we go through our daily activities, living through stressful events, and unfortunately being exposed to stressful situations that we can't necessarily avoid..
Here is a short tip that an be very helpful:
1) Take a few minutes out of your day, go to a quiet space, sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes.
2) Inhale fully through your nose and allow your belly to expand with the inhalation but don't  force the breath.
3) very gently exhale through your  mouth allowing your belly to contract  (the breath of the inhalation and the exhalation should be about equal in time)
4) count 4-6 deep abdominal breaths
5) resume with your day
feel free to do this as many times as you desire, ideally you should find a few minutes approx three times a day
